18 Mar 2007 - DCA Mini Gala

The club held the first of our three annual meets, the Mini Gala, on Sunday 18th March.

Olympia was packed both on poolside and in the spectating gallery for this meet for the 11 and unders.

Seventeen teams contested the gala with teams from Aberdeen, Banchory, Portobello, Inverness and Oban all making a substantial journey to Dundee.

The meet gave a lot of swimmers their first taste of a real gala atmosphere, whilst other more seasoned campaigners were there to compete for the spoils.

Drew and Gillian were the coaches on poolside and were very impressed by the 62 PB's from 72 swims. A great effort by all our swimmers.

We managed a haul of 8 individual golds (with a new Meet Record for Molly Redford in the 50m back), 3 silvers and 2 bronzes and a new Meet Record in the Girls Relay (see Gillians report below for all our finalists).

We also had two Best Swimmers,

Alasdair Rennet in the 9 & Under Boys category

and

Molly Redford in the 10YO Girls category.

Thanks should also go to all those who helped to make this a success including all Officials / runners / door people etc. etc. the list is too long.

Without this help we really would not manage to host these galas and into the bargain it greatly helps to boost our club funds.
