5 May 2007 - 2nd Division team turns division on its head

After the disappointment of the first of our 2nd Div galas we pulled out all the stops to field a much stronger looking team (especialy the younger ones, some who were swimming at their first 'real' gala).

We made a good start in the medlay relays and lay just behind leaders St Thomas after eight events.

Into the individual events and we had managed to steadily claw back the few points we were behind to take a narrow lead of our own at the halfway point.

As the individual events drew to a close we were still surprising ourselves (and the others - I think) by holding on to an ever so slender lead. As has happened with our other teams, the result would all hinge on the freestyle relays and with two of our teams missing we were fearful that we would be pipped at the post.

A couple of DQ's, firstly for ourselves and then St Thomas kept it tight. There were a few people asking if we knew what the scores were and just what we needed to do (St Thomas had actually forged ahead into a nine point lead - which we weren't sure of at the time). At the end of the day we could do no better than to try and win as many of the relays as we could  (we won the last four) and keep our fingers crossed that we had done enough.

As the final results were announced (in reverse order), we heard '2nd place - St Thomas' and up went an almighty victory cheer from our swimmers (and a few parents into the bargain). We had achieved what seemed impossible and turned our first gala last place into a second gala victory.

It was a happy bus back down the road to Dundee !!!
