19 May 2007 - 1st Division team strengthens position at top of league
The second gala for our 1st Div team saw them make the journey down to Arbroath for Monifieth's gala. We had a full squad and having won the first gala were hopeful of adding to our success.
Our youngsters got us off to a great start in the medlay realys and by the time our seniors had swum we had established a great 6 point cushion to take into the individual events.
We steadily extended our lead in the individual event rounds over Monifieth, Menzieshill and Kinross who were all having their own battles to gain valuable points over one another. Blairgowrie were becoming a bit detached as they struggled to bridge the gap to the other four teams.
As the individual events finished with just the eight freestyle relays to go we had a healthy looking 25 point advantage over Kinross and Monifieth who were tied for 2nd spot and barring disasters we were looking good for our second victory.
We again looked strong in the closing relays and finished comfortable winners. Our will to do well was epitomised by young Jessica Carrie who had her goggles come off in each of the relays, but fought on without them to help her team gain valuable points.
Monifieth did well to grab the extra point and take a close second spot ahead of Kinross. As has been the case so often when teams fail to field all their relay teams, Menzieshill probably paid the penalty of being short of two of theirs and who knows, may have been in the mix for 2nd had they been at full strength.
