23 Jun 2007 - Premier team open up lead at top
The third of the five Premier League galas was hosted by St Thomas at Arbroath High School.
We had a full team although there were a number of swimmers reserving up in a gala where we were looking to consolidate our position at the top.
The full teams we had helped us to open up a narrow lead over Perth Blues in the opening medlay relays.
Into the individual rounds and Perth Blues had a good first round of swims to narrow things to just a single point.
The next round was the one where we had a great round and opened up a 16 point lead that we knew would be difficult for Perth to pull back.
St Thomas were more competitive in this gala where they were edging ahead of Forfar who had done so well in the first two galas.
The last two rounds of the individuals saw us maintain the lead we had gained over Perth Blues and the 200 point mark looked a distinct possibility if we could score well in the free relays.
Of the 40 points available from the free relays we amassed a great 37 points and quite comfortably broke the 200 mark to take victory once again.
St Thomas did hang on to their lead over Forfar to take some valuable points. Perth Reds, although again producing some good swims, look as though they will find it difficult to avoid a return back to Division 1.
A note of thanks to all those first time Timekeepers who donned their 'whites' and took up their stopwatches to officiate for the first time at a league gala.
