Bridge to Bridge Championship 2007

On Friday 17th August several Dundee City Aquatics swimmers took part in the Dundee City Council – Leisure and Communities’ Department annual rail-to-road bridge swim with a varied degree of success.  The one mile tidal-assisted, down river swim began at the high-span of the Rail-Bridge and finished at the rear of the Hilton Hotel.

Over recent month many of those swimmers who entered this years open water competition have continuously trained at Broughty   Ferry   Harbour , in the hope that this would maximise their chances of success during the one mile swim.  It must also be added that for many of those swimmers this was the first time they had competed in an open water event.

The swimmers included Elizabeth Carrie, Fiona Beckett, Christina Milne, Mhairi Livie, Peter Stewart, Iain D’Arcy, Gary Milne, Billy Smith, Stephen Massey, Stuart Maxwell and Delyth Cunnah.  This was truly a great turnout with a swimmer or swimmers representing the junior and above swimming squad categories within DCA.

The junior boy’s category was won by Peter Stewart with his fellow swimming colleagues Iain D’Arcy and Gary Milne taking 2nd and 3rd places.  The junior girl’s category was won by Elizabeth Carrie with her fellow colleagues Fiona Beckett, Christina Milne and Mhairi Livie taking 2nd 3rd and 4th places.

The senior men’s category was won by Darryl Pace ( St Thomas ) closely followed by Billy Smith, Stuart Maxwell and Stephen Massey who took  2nd 3rd and 4th places.  Senior Ladies category was won by Laura Mathewson (Menzieshill Whitehall) with a close 2nd by Delyth Cunnah and the 3rd place going to Claire Ramsay (YeAABA).

I would also like to extend a thank you to all those swimmers and parents who came to support this year’s bridge to bridge swim.  I believe that I speak for all those DCA swimmers when I say that their support during and after the event made for a most enjoyable evening and some what of a low key social event.  I would also like to thank on behalf of the event organisers Mike and Viv D’Arcy and Morag Livie for their excellent timekeeping and crowd management skills.

Yours in sport,

Stephen Massey
