3 Nov 2007 - Premier team take title and clean sweep of all five galas

The final Premier Div fixture saw us take the team to Arbroath for Forfar’s home gala.

We had the comfort of a four point lead over nearest rivals and current champions Perth Blues who had pushed us hard in the previous four and had been unlucky not to nick one of them away from us. With the thought of a ‘clean sweep of all five galas, the target was set.

The medley relays set the ball rolling and it was looking good as we came out of them with a four point lead.

Perth Blues were fighting hard to finish the season on a high as they squared it up after the first set of the individuals. St Thomas had also fought hard to level things with Forfar for third place at he same stage.

The second round of individual events again left the scores tied between ourselves and Perth Blues whilst St Thomas had edged into third spot a point ahead of Forfar.

The third round of the individual events was the one that swung the tide in our favour where we managed to open up a healthy eight point lead and then extended this to nine points by the end of the final individual round.

With all eight relay teams competing, barring disasters, we had the magic 25 point mark in our sights. We duly went on to a near perfect round of relays, dropping just the one point to also break the 200 point mark for the gala.

As the scores were announced, we knew that we had done enough to win the division, but it still rang a sweet tune to the swimmers / coaches / parents who let out the loudest cheer.

Forfar did brilliantly to sneak the relays and also third place with St Thomas having to settle for fourth. Perth Reds again fought gallantly but again found themselves well adrift of the others.

The victory parade saw a proud bunch of swimmers take the walk round the pool to collect the trophy which was presented by Midlands President, Neil Valentine. It was nice to see the majority of competitors staying at the poolside to applaud the team in what has proved to be a very sporting rivalry.
